I want to share my trip to Lopburi that I took at end of last year. I have to admit the biggest and only reason I wanted to go there was to visit the Monkey Temple and to see some cute cute monkeys!
The day started at Don Muang Station, I researched and saw they had trains that run straight to Lopburi and thought that would be a fool proof way to go there. Side Note: On this trip I didn't have any access to 3G/Internet on my phone so once I left the hotel I had to rely solely on a paper map and the kind Thai people around me to guide me to my destination.
So here is how my not so smooth journey to Lopburi went...
The ticket lady handed me my ticket. She told me they were 2nd class seats and assured there will be air-con and a toilet on board.
A train pulled up on the station I was told to wait on and I quickly got myself seated. I didn't think to much of it but later realised small details that were different from what she describe. There was only fans, there was no toilet and to be honest the train looked a lot more worn down than the price I paid for. Luckily a guard had come around to check everyone's tickets, he looked at mine and tried to gesture something like to get off at the next station. Mind you by then I was already on the train for about half an hour so I thought he was letting me know that Lopburi was the next stop. The train stopped and I hopped off only to be escorted by another train guard that also spoke no english. This station was not Lopburi, there was not a single tourist or western person there. The train guard then gestured to me to follow him to a different train platform and flagged down that train that was heading towards us.
Long Story Short
I had caught the wrong train, the one that I was suppose to get on arrived a minute after the one I had got on. The 1st guard was kind enough to let me get off at the next station and arrange for the right train to deliberately stop at that station (which normally it would go past) just to let me get on. What a whirl wind of a morning but now every time I think back, I think how utterly kind the guard was to have helped me like that. ^_^
After that event, I finally arrived at Lopburi, woohoo! A previous google search lead me to believe this whole town would be swarmed with monkeys but they actually all hung out at Phra Prang Sam Yod Temple also known as the Monkey temple.
↑ The completely wrong train I got on.

↑ This is when I was wondering where those darn monkeys were.

I love how family orientated the monkeys are. They are not locked or trapped at this temple they just love to hangout here.
It is free to enter the temple, however you can pay to feed them. Be warned they can climb on you if you are feeding them but they are very nice.
